Stop Waiting for Perfect. How to Start Talking to Disabled Users Now
Many teams say they want to include disabled people in their research but don’t know where to start — they worry their tools aren’t accessible enough, their products aren’t ready, or they’ll say the wrong thing.
In this talk, Michele shows how talking to disabled users doesn’t have to be hard. You’ll learn simple ways to recruit, prepare, and run sessions that center accessibility without needing perfect tooling or big budgets. With real-world examples and practical prompts, Michele demystifies inclusive UX research so teams can start learning from the people accessibility is really for. Because the best way to build accessible experiences isn’t waiting until everything is flawless, it’s starting the conversation.
Accessibility That Scales — A Plan Your Team Can Actually Use
What happens when accessibility suddenly becomes urgent — lawsuit urgent? That’s where Marcel's journey began. A11YPlan had to act fast, build a sustainable approach, and find tools that actually worked. The lawsuit sparked the change, but a clear, pragmatic plan made it stick.
In this talk, Marcel will share that plan — how they learned to prevent issues early, test efficiently, communicate clearly, and scale accessibility across teams. Forget long checklists and legal jargon; this is about real workflows, real tools, and results you can use right away. Because accessibility isn’t just about compliance — it’s about having a practical way forward.
Break
Time for a quick break to stretch those legs, give your brain a rest and get that coffee.
Beyond the Happy Path
Somewhere along the way, the tech world became obsessed with the word delight. Pretty much every business talks about delivering delightful experiences. But experiences aren’t always delightful — and they don’t need to be.
Using personal stories, real-world examples, and practical takeaways, this session will challenge you to think beyond the happy path and design for the complexity of human experiences.
We’ll cover designing for behaviours, emotions, and context. You’ll leave with actionable examples of where to bring risk into different parts of the process, from research to implementation, and how to tie user impact to business impact.
Panel Discussion
Let's take a little time to discuss all that we have heard, together. Bring your questions, and let's get the discussion going!
Goodbye!
What? The End? Ownoos. But hopefully you have learned something in the process. And luckily there are always the videos, the slides, the collaborative docs, and more. We’ll send them your way shortly. Thank you for joining us & see you again soon! ⛱
