Schedule

Meets May 17, 2022.

All our Meets events are nice, interactive and (hopefully 😻) interesting. Our upcoming Meets for What should help you understand how you can use UX research to make your users experience just that little bit nicer.

We have a few amazing speakers for you. We’ll start with Stephanie Troeth, who will explain why “Build the right thing”, rather than “Building the thing right” is a good approach. We’ll continue with Billy Carlson and Jessica Orellanes from Balsamiq who will provide us with a real world case study. After a mini-break, we’ll hear Rinaldo Ugrina’s thoughts on how to use research to optimise for the mobile web. We’ll end with an interactive panel.

We open our virtual doors 15 minutes before we start on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 8 AM PDT 🌍 and we’ll finish around 11 AM.

🐭 8–11AM — Disneyland Resort (CA)
🍟 11AM–2PM — Walt Disney World (FL)
🎠 5–8PM — Disneyland Paris
🐡 12–3AM — Tokyo DisneySea

We love it when our speakers do live things: they show how they work — their setup, techniques and shortcuts for getting work done in live interactive sessions. So you can learn from their techniques (and mistakes).

Vitaly, the one who loves ironing, front-end, UX and has tons of crazy ideas.

Welcome!

What? Let's find out together! For our upcoming Smashing Meets event on UX-research, you'll be welcomed by our friendly host(s), who will quickly explain how the Meets will run, and might have some first questions for you already! We can’t wait to meet you!

8:15 AM

Building the Right Thing

As designers and developers, we see it as our responsibility to come up with the best solution possible to any given problem. But how well do we know the problem? Can we influence how a problem ought to be solved? In this talk, Steph discusses bringing research forward in the design process — how we can better articulate the value of design through research, so that we can begin to use design research to drive the direction of organisational strategy.

9:00 AM

User Research in the Real Messy World

We all want to do proper rigorous research with all its bells and whistles, but it isn’t always possible. The good news is that we can adapt Research to work within any company, regardless of cultural constraints or limited resources. The Balsamiq team will walk us through a research project from their real messy world to inspire creative ways to adapt research to your world.

Six Mobile Usability Fundamentals Most Sites (Still) Struggle with

With most ecommerce sites finding more than half their traffic through mobile, it's now even more clear than ever that your site's mobile user experience needs to be robust and well-supported.

In this talk, Rinaldo will discuss 6 mobile usability fundamentals most sites — also non-ecommerce — still struggle with. Based on many hours of research and experience, he'll also provide improvements that will make your visitor's life a lot nicer.

10:30 AM

What? Even more questions?

Closing up, the speakers and hosts will try to answer your questions, and possibly challenge you a little as well.

10:55 AM

Goodbye!

What? The End? Noooos! But hopefully some of your questions are answered, and we have made sure you will ask some new ones. Luckily there is always the videos, the slides, the collaborative docs, and more. We’ll send them your way shortly. Thank you for joining us & see you again soon! ⛱
