Scott Jehl is a web designer and developer who works with the bright folks at Filament Group, where he creates websites and applications for a range of clients (including the recent responsive design of the Boston Globe). Scott is an active contributor to the open source community, frequently releasing ideas and projects on Github that focus around accessible, sustainable, and performance-oriented practices for cross-device development. Scott enjoys writing and speaking about web design, having co-authored the book Designing with Progressive Enhancement in 2010. Scott is also a jQuery team member, most recently leading the development of the jQuery Mobile project.
Is it possible to build smooth, fast, app-like experiences in the browser without sacrificing the benefits in reach and accessibility that a standard approach provides? Yes... but getting there can be a bumpy road. In this talk, Scott will share some problems encountered, lessons learned, and battles won in the process of chasing the elusive, inclusive web app.
