About Susan and Guthrie

Susan Weinschenk has a Ph.D. in Psychology and is the Chief Behavioral Scientist and the CEO at The Team W, Inc. She is a consultant to Fortune 1000 companies, start-ups, governments and non-profits. Dr. Weinschenk is the author of several books, including 100 Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People, 100 MORE Things Every Designer Needs to Know About People, and How to Get People to Do Stuff.

Guthrie Weinschenk is a Behavioral Economist and the COO of The Team W, Inc. He has a degree in Economics, a law degree, and is a licensed attorney. He consults on Behavioral Science and Behavioral Economics, teaches workshops and gives keynote speeches at business and design conferences. Guthrie is the author of I Love You, Now Read This Book. (It’s About Human Decision Making and Behavioral Economics).

Day 1: Introduction to UX Strategy

On the first day you will learn what UX Strategy is, why it can greatly increase the impact of your work, and what a UX Strategist should know and be able to do. You’ll get examples and a template for putting together a short and long term strategy and an action plan for your UX team, whether you are a large team or a team of one. In addition you will learn about the core principles of UX that a UX strategist should be able to apply at any point in the UX work you do

Day 2: UX Toolbox

You will learn about all the UX activities that UX professionals do, when to do each activity, and why. You’ll also learn how this allows you to ‘sell’ your UX decisions better. This will allow you to better decide which UX activities are best for a given product and project, and implement them much more effectively.

Day 3: UX Methods

You have figured out the base strategy, and have ‘buy-in’ for that. Now you have to choose the best methods to do the actual UX work. Today you will learn about four different method: Design Thinking, User Centered Design, Agile UX, and Lean UX. You’ll learn about the basic concepts behind each one, how to go about doing each method, and the pros and cons of each.

Day 4: UX Infrastructure

In order to work effectively and efficiently, UX teams need an infrastructure to facilitate that. Today you will learn what you should consider having in place, including, standards, patterns, and guidelines for interface design, repositories for user research and designs, and the best places to put the UX team in an organization.

Day 5: Leveraging UX

No matter how new or how mature user experience (UX) is in your organization, you always want to optimise the use of UX in your organization.
