There’s more than one way to code a web design, but the choices we make in the process of translating a wireframe into web content have a huge impact on the accessibility of that content.

We will walk you through the process of analyzing a wireframe from an accessibility perspective, making coding decisions to optimize for accessibility, implementing that code, testing your code, and troubleshooting. This workshop will take the form of a mini sprint.

This workshop is sponsored by our wonderful sponsor Deque and costs only 10 CAD.

You will work with Deque experts to

  • Define project requirements and the scope of the sprint based on existing wireframes
  • Prioritize and assign tasks
  • Identify how one would normally approach building the web components
  • Identify what kind of accessibility challenges would show up
  • Discuss how to solve those issues and the pros/cons of different approaches
  • Build the things
  • Test the things
  • What worked? What didn’t? Why didn’t it work? How would you fix?
  • Share practical lessons attendees can remember and apply when they build these components in the future.

This will be a highly interactive workshop focused on giving you practical experience integrating accessibility into the development process and helping you build your accessibility problem solving skills. You will also be given early access to their exclusive beta testing community for a new accessibility testing tool.

Target Audience

Front-end developers seeking practical accessibility skills that they can apply on the job. Attendees should be comfortable with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and have a basic understanding of what accessibility is.

What Hardware/Software do you need?

You will need a laptop with Chrome installed and a text editor.
